Least Bittern

The Least Bittern can grow to 13" tall with greenish black head and back. Shades of brown on the wings and sides. Its chest has some added white. Habitat: Marshes, swamps, ponds, streams and tidal flats. The Least Bittern's range is from Florida to Southern Canada and in the Gulf over to Mexico. The Least Bittern is the smallest of the Heron family.
